Country Sourdough Bread
If you love sourdough bread, you need to know about The Drifter’s Loaf, a small-batch bakery based in Elizabeth. Owner and operator Courtney Marivn specializes in naturally leavened, slow fermented breads made with organic New York-grown grains. And while that’s all interesting, what’s most important is that her sourdough is just amazing. The crusts are thick, dark, and crackly while the crumb inside is tender with the air pockets and beautiful webbing that marks a good sourdough. The flavor is deep and just a bit tangy.
Where to find it: Marvin sells her sourdough breads (as well as baguettes, focaccia and other baked goods) wholesale to local restaurants and markets like the Green Goddess Natural Market in Saranac Lake, Cedar Run Bakery in Keene, and the Essex Farm Store in Essex. You can also buy her breads, and maybe meet Courtney, at the Keene Valley and Elizabethtown farmer’s markets.
ADK chefs love this cheese - it’s full flavored and a great melter.
