Cream Cheese Festival
LOWVILLE - You would think Philadelphia Cream Cheese is made in, well, Philadelphia. It’s not. Most of it is made in Lowville, just beyond the Blue Line between the foothills of the western peaks of the Adirondacks and the Tug Hill Plateau. In fact the huge Kraft Heinz plant there is reportedly one of is the largest cream cheese manufacturing facilities in the world
Each year the town celebrates their cheesy heritage by hosting their Cream Cheese festival, which brings more than 10,000 visitors to the Lowville’s historic downtown. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, September 19th from11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is free.
The fun includes food, live music, family activities, and a massive communal cheesecake. In fact, in 2024, the factory reclaimed its Guinness World Record title for Largest Cheesecake by creating a cheesecake with a diameter of 11.5 feet that weighed more than 15,000 lb.
Good to know:
Parking is at the Lewis County Fairgrounds with shuttle buses running continuously from to and from downtown from 10:30 a.m. through 6:30 p.m.
There’s a recipe contest for dishes featuring Philadelphia cream cheese, and participants can get free cream cheese with which to develop their recipes (see event website for details).
